Los Angeles Here We Come!

Chelsey & Bre ready for fun!
May 20, 2009:  In the airport bright and early on a Wednesday morning.  Chelsey Meyer and Bre Watters are all smiles as they envision themselves on the sandy shores of Venice Beach.  For our May Term, we are studying film adaptation (short stories/novellas that have been made into film).  Since students in this May Term have a variety of majors, we've been talking about film using general concepts such as character, plot, set, lighting, costume, and so on.  For their final project, students will choose a short story (some are thinking about using a fairy tale or comic book) and create their own adaptation.  It might be a script, a plan for a set, drawings of costumes, a sketch of a character, or whatever they would like to do with it.  Hopefully, this trip to Los Angeles will help them get a feel for life in Hollywood and what it takes to create a film.

Day One:  We started at Venice Beach and all students went straight for the water.  Preston was the first to go for it and jump right in the water.  Brian decided he was going, too, though he didn't have his trunks on.  Hey...shorts dry, right?
